Tour Overview

MABDR® is a scenic ride for dual-sport and adventure motorcycles that uses dirt, gravel and paved roads to wind through remote parts of Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. Starting in Damascus Virginia, and ending in Lawrenceville, Tioga County, PA, this 1,080-mile route, primarily uses forest roads and rural country lanes, to lead riders through the Appalachian mountains, majestic forests, bucolic farming landscapes, Amish country, and locations that played pivotal roles in early American history. The plan for this ride is to begin in Damascus, Va (at hotel in Abingdon, Va) and head north finishing up in Lawrenceville, Pa at the New York border.

We will meet near our base for the summer in Canton, Pa and ride to the start in Virginia. Riders will have the option of leaving vehicles and trailers in Canton so they will be available when we finish the ride on the BDR®

Charity

A portion of your ride fee will be donated to two very worthwhile charities. The first charity is Motorcycle Relief Project. MRP takes military veterans with PTSD on Adventure rides giving veterans the opportunity to ride and share stories together. The second charity is the BDR® community itself. Donations to BDR® allows the continuation of route development and promotion.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Leave Damascus, Va

Damascus, Va to White Rock Campground

We will be moteling it for the night before the beginning of the ride. We’ll stop at Brushy Mountain Outpost for lunch as we descend the mountain. You will also experience the  many eye-popping vistas along the route as well as snaking through forested gravel roads of Jefferson National Forest. We finish the day at White Rock Campground.

Hotel Option: Mountain Lake Lodge (of Dirty Dancing Fame) for those electing not to camp.

Day 2 – Leave White Rock Campground

White Rock Campground to Seneca Shadows

As we leave White Rock, We will make our way north spending most of the day traveling through the forested trails of George Washington and Jefferson National Forests. Camping will be at Seneca Shadows Campground.

Hotel Option – Smoke Hole Resort and Lodge

Day 3 – Leave Seneca Shadows Campground

Seneca Rocks to Pine Grove Furnace State Park, Pa

This section of the MABDR® features long swaths of blacktop but moves through some great historic villages. There are a couple of very unique stopovers on this route. The first is Horn Camp School House. This is a quaint one room schoolhouse that its caretakers would love to give you the history of. I would also suggest not using the “for display purposes only” outhouse along the creek. You will also be riding over the Low Water Bridge crossing a branch of the Potomac. Be sure to have your 25 cents ready to place in the cup as you leave the bridge and go through the red brick tollbooth. Camping will be at Pine Grove Furnace State Park.

Hotel Option – Holly Inn

Day 4 – Leave Pine Grove Furnace

Pine grove Furnace State Park to Bald Eagle State Forest, Pa

Pennsylvania features large amounts of off road sections and large elevation changes from ridge to valley. We’ll be passing through Tuscarora and Big Springs State Park. Bucolic drives through small hamlets will give way to a bit more challenging sections through Rothrock State Forest. We will make camp at Seven Mountains Campground in Bald Eagle State Forest.

Hotel Option – Wyndam Gardens in State College, Pa

Day 5 – Leave Bald Eagle State Forest

Bald Eagle State Forest to Lawrenceville, Pa

Leaving Bald Eagle and heading north we will pass through the Pennsylvania Wilds region and ride through the breathtaking Pennsylvania Grand Canyon then the winding farm roads as we make it to Lawrenceville, Pa and the end of the MABDR at the New York Border. You’ve completed the 1,000 mile ride. Congrats on a job well done. We will have dinner together before heading to our lodgings.

Lodging: You are welcome to crash at our base home in Canton, Pa (a few beds and plenty of floor space) or stay at one of the area hotels. We can help you locate a suitable location if you desire. This final night of lodging is not included in the price of the tour.
